Biography

Born and raised in Fresno, James attended the only high school bearing the city’s name, Fresno High School. He began his college career at Fresno City College, completing his general education requirements and transferred to Fresno State where he earned a Bachelors of Arts degree in Political Science.

Upon graduation, James earned the opportunity to serve his community as a staffer in a Fresno City Councilmember’s office where he gained valuable experience in both government and public policy. He would later leave his post to pursue a Masters degree in communication management at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism.

James’ passion for public service drove him over the course of 15 years to help others, build communities, and strengthen organizations with a core focus of making a better Fresno for future generations. His work at local, state, and federal levels of government, serving Fresno and the Central San Joaquin Valley, developed effective change within his community.

His free time is spent as an active volunteer in multiple community organizations, facilitating an environment to foster and empower the development of a new generation of young leadership in Fresno County.

James plans to utilize his academic, volunteer and professional experience to ensure every student in Fresno County has a fair chance to succeed by equipping them with the necessary tools and skills to enter the workforce in Fresno County, the Central Valley and beyond.
